The Engineer As Artist When Older

The Engineer As Artist When Older

When the Reunion Committee recruited me and Harry Forsdick to be webmasters of this site, it was because we brought some technical chops to the table.  I had run some e-commerce businesses, and Harry is/was true engineering talent.  Little did we know, but Harry has been exploring painting and watercolors … using his engineering talents, like Vermeer, to create images on an iPad good enough to warrant an Exhibit of his latest works.

Reunion Hacks: Hotel Rooms

Reunion Hacks: Hotel Rooms

Yes, it’s quaint, and a bit nostalgic, to sleep in our old rooms … on those “Yale single” bedframes that squeak when you sit on them.  But many spouses and partners are not so, um, adventurous, not to mention brave enough to deal with shared bathrooms, third-floor walk-ups and the other limitations of dorm living.  They (or we!) want a regular hotel room, thank you. This guide will tell you all about hotels in the area, and how to get reservations.

Mini-Reunions Announced for Richmond and DC

Mini-Reunions Announced for Richmond and DC

Editors’ Note:  Doug Colton is one the three co-chairs of the Reunion Committee. Based on the success of regional  “mini-reunions” in Boston and New York, the Reunion Committee is organizing get-togethers in places where Classmates are clustered.  The first two of these have been announced.  If you are in or near either the greater DC area, or the…

The Story Behind “The Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship Fund”

The Story Behind “The Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship Fund”

In May, you may recall that our website published Meet The New “Class of 1969 Scholar” – Maddie Hoffman.  Well, the editors were curious: They had not heard of a “Class of 1969 Scholarship Fund,” so they decided to investigate.  What was it?  Who started it?  How is it used?  How much is in it?  There were lots of unusual turns in the story and …

Upcoming Yale-Harvard Weekend Proves Popular

Upcoming Yale-Harvard Weekend Proves Popular

Over half the 100 tickets that Lang Wheeler secured for us are now sold. And a waiting list is forming for more tickets once the “max 2 per Classmate” restriction is lifted on 9/15/2018. If you are thinking about coming to The Game, I’d urge you to move quickly. November 17 seems like a long way away, but those three months will go fast, and tickets won’t last. There are some interesting patterns to the early ticket-buyers …

Announcing New MUSIC Section … And Others Coming Soon

Announcing New MUSIC Section … And Others Coming Soon

This announcement opens up an entirely new section of the Class website — a Music section. The new Music Editor, John G. O’Leary, will be presenting works created by our Classmates, as well as offering some insightful commentary on our musical heritage. After all, Yale is/was a deeply musical place, with something like 60% of undergrads involved in singing groups, bands, orchestras, or other solo or group performances. And the 1960s produced the largest explosion of great music in the century. Welcome MUSIC section. (And get ready for Books, Visual Arts and more!)

Yale-Harvard Weekend Plans Announced

Yale-Harvard Weekend Plans Announced

The Reunion Committee has gone all-out to make the Yale-Harvard weekend this November super-special. “The Game” is the 50th anniversary of the famous 29-29 tie, and it’s being held in Fenway Park. By being first in line, we scored the best seats available to Yale attendees. Prior to The Game, there will be a “private event” brunch at a fancy restaurant-bar just 3 blocks from Fenway, and there are events on Friday as well. Tickets go on sale today!

College Captains

The following people have volunteered to be “College Captains” for each college.  They are an extension to the Reunion Committee, and they help with outreach to find Missing Classmates, answer questions about, and encourage participation in, the Class Survey, the 50th Reunion ClassBook and the website, and encourage attendence at the reunion. If you have an interest…

Today’s Yale, By The Numbers

Here’s a very fast way to see how many folks live on campus, what the student-teacher ratios are, financial aid statistics, the diversity of the student body, where graduates of Yale College go after graduation and other interesting stats about Yale College in a one-page flyer recently published by Yale. It’s a must-read for anyone handling Alumni interviews, and a quick, fun read for everyone else.
