50th Reunion Page Is Live!

Today we announce a new section of the website — everything related to the 50th Reunion.

Check it out: Yale1969.org/50th-reunion.

As the actual program and schedule of events comes together, it will be published on that page and in that section of the website.

The long-lead-time item needing attention right now is the 50th Reunion ClassBook.  Every member of the class will be asked to contribute a personal essay to the ClassBook, and there’s already a page explaining the assignment and accepting submissions.

Sometime in the next few weeks, the Class Survey will be circulated, and all Classmates will be asked to complete it.  Results from the survey will be aggregated, anonymized, analyzed and presented both at the reunion and in the 50th Reunion ClassBook.

    1. Don, I’m not sure which draft you saw, but there have been many drafts (more than 5 by my memory), with some that were quite divergent. Of course, participation is voluntary, so you needn’t fill out anything making you uncomfortable.

I do know that the Survey Committee did knock out some questions that were intrusive and not very edifying (e.g., criminal behavior) but they did leave in questions whose answers you wouldn’t want to make public but which, when anonymized, aggregated and analyzed, would be VERY interesting. E.g., I wouldn’t want to publish my net worth, but I think it’d be interesting to see where on the distribution curve of the whole class I fell — or what the curve looks like! (Bell shaped? Power law?)

Our classmate Tom Guterbock, PhD, runs the Center for Survey Research at U.Va., and he’s arranged to have a professional polling group run the survey completely anonymously. (Stay tuned for a story about this coming soon.) NO ONE AT YALE, OR IN OUR CLASS will have access to individual answers. Tom and his team will only get anonymized data on which he can run analyses and graphs …and come up with a fun report for the ClassBook and for a fun preso at the reunion itself.
