Editor’s Note:   John Yarmuth (D – KY-03) is a Member of Congress representing the Louisville, KY area.  As Chair of the Budget Committee, he is one of the Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives.  John has agreed to engage with us for an hour on Wednesday afternoon, June 17th, to give us his unique views of the politics and policies arising during these extraordinary times, followed by answers to your questions.

Class Colloquium:  Live Presentation Followed by Q&A

Date:  Wednesday, June 17th

Time: 1:00 PM (Eastern)

Register in advance, please

In the second of our series of Class Colloquia, classmate John Yarmuth will talk with us privately about what is going on in Congress … and of the rapidly evolving political and policy demands arising from the pandemic, the economy and the upcoming elections.

We will use the new Zoom account for Yale 1969 to host the online meeting.  Because this is a closed briefing, you must sign up in advance.  Only pre-registered attendees will be admitted to the teleconference.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation by email containing information about joining the meeting.

As you can imagine, John is very busy with the demands of his leadership role, so he will not tarry.  Therefore, please JOIN the meeting 5-10 minutes early so that we can start promptly upon John’s arrival.

John will spend about half of his time giving us his perspective and the latest view from the Hill (Capitol Hill, that is).  We’ll finish the hour with some Q&A.

Breakout Session information:  After the one-hour main session, we will use the Zoom “breakout rooms” to break into separate, 30-minute-ish meetings by college.  There, you will be able to socialize with people from your residential college, as well as discuss anything arising from John’s remarks.

I hope you can attend.   Don’t forget to register and mark your calendars.

Last, if you have any questions for John, you can leave them on this quick-survey form.

BTW, if you haven’t used Zoom yet, Editor Wayne Willis has written a little how-to article to help you get over any technical concerns or questions; and if you need some personal support, he’s happy to call you and walk you through getting set up … for reasons outlined in that article.  Just ping him at support@Yale1969.org prior to 6/17.

  1. A question for John: Are there any areas of bipartisan support in Congress for any anti-COVID measures? For any racial justice measures?
