Joseph McCarty, August 8, 2015

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Joseph Stanley “Joe” McCarty, 68, lost his courageous battle with esophageal cancer on August 8, 2015 at home in Bonita Springs, Fla. surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born in Coronado, Calif., Joe graduated from St George’s School in Newport, RI, and from Yale University. After college he pursued his love of sailing and the sea. He was a delivery captain, boat owner and manager of marinas.

Joe was a knowledgeable rigger, mechanic, electrician, boat operator and jack of all trades. He was general manager of Robinhood Marine Center in Robinhood, Maine for 20 years where he continued to work seasonally after his retirement in 2005. With Joe’s expertise, vision and energy Robinhood Marine Center grew in size and reputation becoming one of the foremost yacht yards on the Maine Coast.

He served on the board and as president of the Maine Marine Trades Association and was a proponent for advancing the industry.

Joe will be remembered for his energy and good humor, his love of communicating and learning. When the cancer was discovered, he said he had had a great life with no regrets. Just wished it could last a little longer. We do too, dear Joe, dear Dad.
